NASA/ODU/EVMS INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM: TECHNOLOGY FOR THE TREATMENT OF AD/HD
Webb Center, Hampton / Newport News Room,
OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY (ODU)
PURPOSE: To introduce the use of NASA developed and patented computer technology for the treatment of AD/HD in children to the local school system, clinical psychologists, and community in general.
FORMAT: The Symposium will begin with a presentation of the NASA developed Extended Attention Span Training (EAST) System. EAST system was developed by Dr. Alan Pope from a biocybernetic system used to increase the mental engagement of military pilots. EAST uses the combination of video games and a system to develop an increased attention span. This achieved by an increase in the video game's difficulty depending on the measure brain wave frequencies. Clinical aspects of using EAST technology will be discussed from the perspective of Behavioral Medicine.
An Engineering approach to quantify and measure stress level in humans, and its implication on insurance reimbursement will be presented. FInally, a global perspective on healthcare systems in other countries with emphasis on mind-body approach will be discussed.
FREE AND OPEN TO PUBLIC / NO FEES
If you happen to be in Hampton Roads area (that is, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Hampton, Newport News, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, and Williamsburg) and would like to attend this get-together, please call or e-mail Satish Boregowda at (757) 489-1412.
